All British engine Company Ltd. is a British manufacturer of airplanes, motorcycles and aviation accessories. The enterprise had its seat first in Byfleet and 1912 by Ronald Charteris was based. Later it called itself A.B.C. Engine, Ltd. Starting from 1919 it belonged to Sopwith. After economic Querelen Sopwith had to announce however 1921 insolvency, ABC engine followed 1922 into the bankruptcy.
1913 came first 496 cm - the double-piston engine into the sales. Short time one manufactured the first complete motorcycles later.
During the First World War the enterprise manufactured mainly aircraft engines, which were designed by chief engineer Granville Bradshaw. From this development one already began soil current supplies on the basis of small double-piston engines during the war with the production of Auxiliary power unit"´s (APU) and. The first employment of an APU took place in the supernavy Night Hawk, where an aggregate of ABC of engine supplied a headlight with five HP of achievement.
The enterprise busy itself after the war first mainly with the building of scooters. The Scootamota had a capacity of 123 cm and relatively successfully sold. Sopwith availed itself 398 cm of a Zweizylinder Boxers and inserted it transverse to the driving direction. The progressive motorcycle had a angeblocktes 4-Gang-Getriebe and a Hinterradfederung. Altogether it resembled the later BMW. Because of many teething troubles it came however to the ruin of the enterprise. The scooter manufacturing ran still another one year longer.
In the years 1921-1924 existed a French folder, which offered likewise such motorcycles.
With there used the double-piston engines again one deliberated on its roots and developed engines for light airplanes. These engines were relatively frequently used, until one withdrew oneself 1926 again from the aircraft construction.
1929 one already designed however the A.B.C. Robin, a light airplane, of 40 HP strong A.B.C. Scorpion II engine was propelled. Later one concentrated the power aggregates and supplied her into the 1950er year inside.
