The ABC/XYZ analysis is a procedure of stock management for the better classification of stocks in an enterprise. It sits down together from the ABC analysis and the XYZ analysis.

Necessity

The classification of the stock on the basis the ABC analysis, used in many enterprises, partitions the articles usually does not differentiate enough. She judges only the articles by her portion of the enterprise conversion. Besides however also the turnover rate is a relevant aspect for the stock management.

The ABC/XYZ analysis unites both instruments and offers thus easier management of camps.

Execution

In a first step both procedures are used separately from each other as to be accomplished. Each article can be arranged thereafter in one of nine categories.

Interpretation

  • AX and BX-articles have a high proportional value and are good to prognosticate, since they are subject to an even consumption. They are relatively simple therefore to steer.
  • AZ and/or BZ-articles is to be regarded as problematic. they have a high portion of the conversion, are however due to their irregular need with difficulty controllable. Are stored too much article of this category, then the existence becomes expensive. With a too small storage it can come to bottlenecks within production.
