With the know-how [] (English for know as) or action knowledge concerns it abilities and knowledge about procedural procedures. Among them solution methods fall and - processes or solutions to the most diverse problems both in science, in the banking, in administration, service, technology and much more besides. To a large part it concerns implicit knowledge.

Know-how belongs also to the terms, which belong into the modernization paradigm of a society. It is identical from the terminology thus not to knowledge, progress etc., even if it is so undifferentiatedly used pretty often.

Marketing and management

The know-how as immaterial resources is a fortune article of an organization, if

  • this individually or in combination valuable, rarely, durably and with difficulty imitatable and/or replaceable are ("„Sustainable "“) is, and
  • the enterprise in the situation is, to transfer and use per-actively which appropriate resources basis by organizational organization in Leistungspotenziale ("„Capability "“).

The know-how is considered then as immaterial and/or intangible resources and within this range to the human Resources is added. In the enterprise value the know-how in the Goodwill is expressed.

Legal view

In the sense of right know-how does not represent a right object, which could be had. This becomes clear, if one e.g. confronts patents to the know-how: A patent is an order article recognized in the legal order (or better: a right object), which can be sold like a thing or other rights. Know-how can be transferred not in the sense of right, but only communicated. In contrast to this know-how can be exactly like commercial patent rights the subject of a contractual license agreement.
