Addressing in the postal service the activity is called to provide a parcel with the address one or several receivers (addressees). The addressing can happen in most different way.

  • The oldest of all methods is handwritten applying of the address on the cover surrounding the transmission.
  • Before the spreading of the computer frequently used addresses were printed automatically by mechanical addressing machines or by digital programs in electrical typewriters on the document and/or cover.
  • Today to a large extent under to the EDP addressed. The address becomes either
    • directly on the document and/or cover or
    • on an adhesive label printed.
