The Italian airline Aermediterranea was created as subsidiary of the Alitalia.
Forerunner of the Aermediterranea was the private airline Itavia, which broke down 1980. After a decision of the Italian transport minister became to 20. March 1981 the Aermediterranea based. The Alitalia was directly involved with 55% in the capital stock, while aero Trasporti Italiani (ATI), which was likewise Alitalia daughter, who held for remaining 45%.
On 1 July 1981 the airline took up the flying operation with airplanes of the type McDonnell Douglas DC-9-32. Altogether six airplanes of this type were in the use. The staff amounted to 382 coworkers. 1982 carried the society on the inland distances of approx. 572000 passengers. 1985 were combined the airline with the ATI. 1994 came the ATI and concomitantly the Aermediterranea finally to the Alitalia.
The fleet of the Aermediterranea consisted of six McDonnell Douglas DC-9-32.

The emblem on the vertical stabilizer resembled that of the airplanes of the Alitalia. Only the colors were different. It was a red triangle on white reason, some oranges Dreick umschloss.
