The African development bank group covers the following three partial organizations:

  • The African development bank (ADB, also: AfDB), based 1964
  • The African development find (ADF, also: AfDF), based 1972
  • and (small) Nigeria Trust find (NTF), based 1976

Task of the bankers' syndicate is the promotion of the economic development and the social progress in (African) the member countries by assignment of credits. Projects with supraregional development impulses have priority. The head office of the bank is in d'Ivoire.

At the end of of 2002 amounted the height of the assigned available credits (in US Dollar) up:

  • 8.1 billion with the ADB,
  • 8.9 billion with the ADF and
  • 110 millions with the NTF.

The ADF seems to be with priority for the granting of credit to the poorest and maximumindebted countries responsible.

Numerous African and non-African states are members and hold portions of the three partial organizations. The entry of non-African countries is possible since 1979. Germany for example joined 1983.

Internal accounting unit is the unit OF account (UA). At the end of of 2002 was the value of a UA at approximately 1.36 US Dollar.
