The AGO of aircraft plants GmbH Oschersleben was until 1945 a German aircraft construction enterprise. The designation AGO had each other different meanings after. It for apparatus engineering GmbH Oschersleben stood last. On its high point the company had approximately 4500 persons employed.
The enterprise was created 1911 in Munich as flight machine works Gustav Otto of the son of the inventor of the four-stroke engine, Dr. Nikolaus Otto, the aviation pioneer Nr.34) and engine farmer Gustav Otto, together with another flight pioneer, Dr.Alberti. As at that time usual, also a flier school was attached. One of of Otto later flying students was called by the way Ernst Udet. Its chief designer Gabriel Letsch sketched a double-decker with pressure screw and skeletal fuselage attached in the back, which became soon the standard airplane of the Bavarian flier troop. For the drive it used one of the engines of own construction of 100 HP, which it marked with AGO (for Aviatiker Gustav Otto). 1912 it created a branch, which became under the line of directors Elisabeth Woerner and Hermann Fremery soon its own enterprise with the name AGO of aircraft plants in Berlin Johannisthal. With beginning of the First World War AGO tried to arrive by construction of observation airplanes at defense contracts. First model was that far double-decker AGO C.1 von Konstrukteur A. Haefeli propelled with a pressure screw. It was produced in the branch work Berlin Johannisthal in a small series. Most successful airplane was the AGO C.IV of 1916, built in approximately 70 copies, which was extremely unpopular however with the pilots.
1916 came up the work Gustav Otto in Munich in the again created Bavarian aircraft plants AG. It opened soon thereafter, together with Josef Schnittisser, a new company AGO (now for corporation Gustav Otto) in Oschersleben, where it manufactured airplane parts for other manufacturers to end of war. After the collapse he tried in the automobile engineering. 1919 were deleted the citizens of Berlin company and Otto separated also from the Oscherslebener enterprise. He withdrew himself at the Starnberger lake, where he died 1926. Its enterprise went still in the same year broke and to 20 hectars large areas by the Sudenburger engine works and iron foundry AG was acquired and first developed. But already 1928 had to close also this enterprise and at the 30.Juni 1930 took place therefore the auction by order of the court.
Some years rested production, until the realm government acquired a resounding and furnished under the Tarnbezeichnung apparatus engineering GmbH Oschersleben one only for the reproduction thought company to the building of airplanes. The first orders for the new work were expressed in 36 pieces of hunters Arado acre of 65, 197 progressing trainer aircraft Arado acre of 66 and 77 hunters Heinkel He 51, from which the first airplane, probably acre 65, had at the 1.Mai 1935 its first flight. Then still another order followed over 140 dive bombers Henschel Hs 123, with which also the all-metal construction held with AGO introduction. They were delivered to at the end of of 1937. Afterwards still 241 training aircrafts Gotha Go were 145 and 187 pieces of Arado acre 96 at the row. Also an order over first 150 pieces of reconnaissance aircraft Henschel Hs 126 went 1937 to the company, which in the summer 1938 even to 390 one increased. As many of it were really built, is not well-known unfortunately. Between March 1937 and the same month of the subsequent year also 121 trainer aircraft Focke Wulf L.G. 44 left the workshops of AGO. Beginning of 1938 the first hunters Messerschmitt BF 109 came into the manufacturing, first still in the execution D (128 pieces), then E and F, until finally starting from 1941 the L.G. 190 in their sequentially improved remarks formed the main part of production.
1935 took place the establishment of its own design engineering department. Admits became the passenger aircraft Ao 192 courier of 1937, developed in competition to the Siebel Fh 104, by whom however only 7 copies were built. Also a destroyer project with the designation Ao 225 was prepared, did not come however over wind tunnel model investigations not outside. Even the sample number 225 was later withdrawn and continued to give at Focke Achgelis.
Starting from July 1943 attacks of ally bomber took place and with end of war again and again exhibited the work heavy damage. To 1947 the remnants of the factory buildings of Soviet soldiers were blown up and the company AGO was completed.
