Air Rhodesia corporation was created on 1 September 1967 from the dissolution of the cent ral African Airways (CAA). The Viscountflotte was divided with air Malawi, the not delivered BAC 1-11 was left to air Zambia. The airplanes of air Rhodesia were provided over-old, white roof and blue sides, and with new labels. Zambia did not want to have do the relations with Malawi with Rhodesien no more, became cool, but the flights were continued. They even increased as after
Air Rhodesia succeeded to increase it in the following years the profit in relation to the times of the CAA, introduced new route after Kariba and increased the Dakotadienst after Hwange to a Viscountdienst. The routes to South Africa suffered however strongly from the competition with the SAA, which larger and faster Boeing 727 used. Air Rhodesien had rigging. On 14 April 1973 suddenly three Boeing 720-025 in Salisbury emerged, which had confessed before in the service Eastern Airlines in Miami. They disappeared immediately in the hangar. The first flight took place on 6 June 1973 after Durban, in the regular enterprise it starting from November 1973 was only used. Unfortunately before the Jom Kippur war took place, which led to the oil crisis and raised the price of from now on the fuel enormously. Since the 720 a substantial Spritschlucker was, that drove the costs upward around 35%. They remained however in service, until 1980 machines were acquired of the type 707. The Dakota was taken 1973 from the service.
Driven emerged now from completely different sources. On 3 September 1978 a Viscount VP-WA5 von Guerillas was shot with Kariba. Only eight passengers survived. On 12 February 1979 a further machine was shot this type by a rocket. In order to avoid far the shining metal surface of these Flugeuge with a matte yellowish green was painted and the engines with the infrared eye of the rockets deceptive protection was equipped. Reduced speed and charge of these airplanes, but none of them was again shot thereafter.
Due to the political development in Rhodesien and the Lancaster House Agreement between the government and the rebels became from the air Rhodesia 1979 air Zimbabwe Rhodesia and in February 1980 finally air Zimbabwe. Those took up its service with all rights on 2 April 1980.
