Albrecht Kossel (* 16 September 1853 in Rostock; "† 5 July 1927 in Heidelberg) was a German physician and physiologist.

The field of work of Albrecht Kossel was physiological chemistry, in particular the chemistry of fabrics and cells. It began its research with a concentration on the cell core and turned then more and more to the proteins, in addition the changes of proteins during the transformation in Peptide, the Peptidkomponenten of the cell as well as the identification of the smallest proteins. At Fischrogen it studied the Protamin and Hexonbasen. 1886 he discovered the Histidin, afterwards he compiled a quantitative method for the isolation of Hexonbasen. With its pupil H.D. Dakin examined it the Arginase, an enzyme, which arginin splits into urea and Ornithin. Later he discovered the Agmantin in Heringsrogen and developed a method to manufacture it.

1853 are born Kossel on 16 September 1853 as an oldest son of the Russian consul Albrecht Kossel and his Mrs. Clara in Rostock.
1872 it begins its medicine study at the again created University of Strasbourg. Particularly the lectures of his professors Heinrich Anton de Bary, Heinrich William Waldeyer, August Kundt, Johann Friedrich William Adolf of Baeyer and above all Felix Hoppe Seyler affect him.

Albrecht Kossel had a daughter and a son, Walther Kossel. This became a well-known physicist and discovered the special interference feature of X-ray at crystals.
