Friedrich William Ernst Albrecht von Graefe (* 22. May 1828 in Finkenheerd with Berlin; " 20 July 1870 in Berlin), Dr. med., was royally Prussian secret Medizinalrat and o. Professor of the eye medicine at the Humboldt university to Berlin. It justified the subject of the Ophthalmologie in Germany.
It came of to a Saxonian family and was the son of the royally Prussian secret Medizinalrats and general staff physician of the army Dr. med. Karl von Graefe (1787-1840), o. Professor of the surgery and director of the surgical hospital of the University of Berlin, and Augusts von Alten (1797-1857). Father Karl was only to 2. /14. Graefe studied medicine, mathematics, physics and chemistry in Berlin. Its thesis still wrote he 1847 on Latin. Afterwards it was Assistenzarzt in Prague, where it began to dedicate itself to the eye medicine completely.
He continued to learn in Paris, Vienna and London and returned 1852 to Berlin, where he opened habilitierte and a private ophthalmic clinic with 120 beds, which enjoyed both in practice as well as in the research immediately world fame. In Berlin center is an impressing monument for the physician, which was created 1882 with world-wide donation funds and on initiative of the citizens of Berlin medical society after drafts by Martin Gropius and Heino Schmieden by the sculptor Rudolf Leopold Siemering. The monument was originally located in the garden of the and has its current place before the clinical center area at the corner Luisen /Schumannstrasse, only Rudolf Virchow removes some steps from the also impressive monument for the founder of the modern pathology. After its destruction the monument was repaired after the Second World War. Bronze plastics appreciates Albrecht of Graefe with the split inscription:
