Alfred Gwynne Vanderbilt (* 20 October 1877 in New York town center; "† 7. May 1915) was a Sportsmann and a member of the prominent US-American Vanderbilt family.

He was the third son of Alice Claypoole Gwynne and Cornelius Vanderbilt II. and the great-grandchild of the American entrepreneur Cornelius Vanderbilt. Later Alfred Vanderbilt studied Paul's School in Concord (New Hampshire) at the pc. and at the Yale university; as a Yale student it was accepted in the there Skull & Bones Geheimgesellschaft. Alfred's oldest brother William Henry Vanderbilt II. its brother Cornelius Vanderbilt III. died by the father because of the not according to rank marriage with Grace Wilson was enterbt in the year 1892 at the age of 22 years and. Therefore Alfred received the largest part of its fortune, the remaining inheritance after the death of the father under its youngest brother Reginald Claypoole Vanderbilt and the sisters of the father was divided. Under Alfreds' large possession of stock shares positions were that New York cent ral Railroad, the Beech Creek Railroad, the Lake shore and Michigan Southern Railway, that Michigan cent ral Railroad, the Pittsburgh and Lake Erie Railroad and the Pullman company.

On 11 January 1901 Vanderbilt in new haven (Rhode Island) married Elsie French, daughter of Francis Ormonde French. On 24 November 1901 the common son William Henry Vanderbilt was born. After Alfred released 1908 with Agnes O'Brien Ruiz, which committed wife of the Cuban in Washington D.C., adultery, that a giant scandal. Both the marriage of the Ruiz and those the Vanderbilts became divorced, Agnes Ruiz committed suicide.

Vanderbilt spent a considerable time in London and married themselves again 1911 with the several times divorced Margaret Emerson Smith Hollins McKim, a wealthy American. She was the heiress of the considerable Bromo Seltzer fortune.

At the 1. May 1915 embarked itself Alfred Vanderbilt of first class in New York at board of the RMS Lusitania, in order to lead the presidency at a congress of horse breeder in London. It was only accompanied by its chamber servant Ronald Denyer. It met on board many old acquaintance, like New Yorker theatre producers the Charles Frohman. To 7. May at 14.10 o'clock local time is torpediert the ocean giant in the Irish channel by the U 20 of the imperial German submarine navy. After two explosions on board the ship sinks in only 18 minutes. Vanderbilt and its servant help to die many women and children into the boats and together with 1.196 other passengers. Its corpse was never found.
