A Allokation (of latin allocare (platzieren)) is an allocation of elements of a quantity to elements of another quantity. Usually the allozierte quantity is a quantity of resources and of subjects or objects, which use resources (n). It is characteristic that resources already allozierte are to another subject or object not at the same time at the disposal.

The associated verb reads allozieren. Used in the computer science today also the verb form allokieren (English ton allocate).

In different sciences this term has in each case a specific meaning.

Computer science

Software programs can allokieren main storage or resources, i.e. respond or reserve for own use.

With the development of embedded systems Allokation is beside the Partitionierung and the Scheduling a subtask with the structuring of software with consideration of non-functional requirements. The Allokation assigns certain computer resources to software units. To a Allokation is among other things the minimization of the total costs of application and communication between the processors aims. One can solve Allokationsprobleme with river problem algorithms or with heuristic beginnings.

Economic science

In the economic science one calls an assigning of scarce resources on different ranges of application resource allocation. A certain factor of production (raw material, Vorprodukt, energy, worker, money, right), which for the production of the property X is used, can thereby at the same time alternatively for the production of a property Y be used.

In a free-market economy the Allokation on markets is steered via the price of resources. That, which needs resources most urgently, is probably ready to pay a higher price. If this Allokation is no longer ensured, one speaks of market failure.

The subject of a comparative view several possible Allokationen can be, in order to find the optimal. For example the quantity that can be determined pareto efficient Allokationen from the quantity of the permissible Allokationen. For public goods Richard Musgrave judged that the Allokation of meritorischer and social goods was one of the tasks of core of the state.

While the Allokation concerned with the distribution of the factors of production regards itself with the distribution the distribution of the consumer products.
