The alpine method is a term time management and is a comparatively simple, during correct and consistent handling, to plan but very effective kind its routine of the day. This method (_Seiwert after Lothar_J.) uses few minutes per day for the production of a written daily plan. The five elements are:

  • Tasks, dates and planned activities note
  • Length estimate
  • Floats take into account
  • Decisions meet
  • Check

Tasks note

With this first work procedure in form of a simple ton DO list, i.e. without consideration for the order, the lining up tasks are arranged for the next day. This should happen in the optimal case one day before.

If somewhat will the day before not settle could, this is inserted also here.

Length estimate

With the second work procedure the prospective time intervals for each task are measured. Is important,

  • that you the expenditure of time to estimate realistic try and to experiences from the past fall back here
  • that you the prospective expenditure of time measure not too scarce
  • that you a time limit sit down
  • that you dates with their exact clock times hold.
  • Floats take into account

Since nobody and no job are free from the outside and inside from disturbances, one should not assume the time estimated for a task is also by hundred percent for the accomplishment of the tasks available. Without taking floats into account to thus plan periods in which no activities are planned, one does not get along in the reason, if one does not stand permanently "“under river"” or, differently expressed: in continuous stress turned out wants.

When planning of activities it recommends to proceed itself from the following approximate values:

  • 60% of the time can become generally concretely "“planned"”
  • 40% of the time against it should serve as time buffer, whereby half of the float for unexpected and spontaneous activities should be reserved in each case.
  • Naturally it can come despite application of 60:40 - rule to the fact that the time for the completion of certain tasks is not enough. A cause for this can be for example the performance curve. Therefore in principle sufficiently tracing in a daily planning should not be missing.

    Decisions meet

Also with the best will: Without omitting, (off) shortening, emphasis setting and delegation of tasks to others one mostly does not come in a given time to the goal.

The most important task with this work procedure exists in setting This can happen in different way. Whether after Eisenhower, ABC or another budgeting type, should the tasks are regarded and consistently is treated. Even if at the end of the daily still time were, deligierte tasks should not be settled before by you. Better you should take up this knowledge to next daily planning and settle but more "“A"” tasks.

    Check

Not only control of the individual points, but also control of planning should take place here. Here the accuracy of planning should be examined and be flowed if necessary into future planning. Renewed control of all on the day worked on tasks and their degree of completion can do possibly forgotten or nevertheless not completely settled a securing. Open tasks must be naturally taken up then to planning for the next day.
