The alternative Investment Market (AIM) is a stock exchange segment at the Londoner stock exchange London stick Exchange.

The AIM was created 1995 as market segment for smaller, growth-strong enterprises without long history. There are only small conditions for a stock exchange note, which leads to an accordingly heterogeneous quality of the noted societies. Until today (conditions: 2005) more than 1,900 enterprises are certified.

Criticism

Since the listing process is comparatively expensive, to procure expressed by critics the suspicion that the AIM was created rather with the goal of generating business for the Londoner broker Community as economical and flexibly risk capital for new companies. One of the most important elements over in the AIM to be taken up, is the NOMAD, the Nominated Advisor. This accomplishes the listing and the Due Diligence and functions afterwards as Market Maker.

Besides there were several cases in the past, in which only superficial examinations found instead of and were used with those the entrance to the AIM only for fast procurement of capital, without an equivalent existed. This was in particular in the range exploration and raw material values the case. Meanwhile scarcely 50 per cent of the AIM listed companies belong to this surrounding field. Therefore by critics stricter control is demanded.
