The American Fur company was in early 19. Century one of the richest fur commercial companies.

The company was justified 1808 by the Johann Jakob Astor originally originating from Germany. Its society contributed substantially to the economic development of the American west; among other things it already created a commercial post at the northwest coast, which it however already sold to 1812 to the Canadian North west company in the year 1811.

Astor concentrated the activities of its society from the upper Mississippi valley. Astor sold its portions of the company 1834 and 1864 the company by another commercial company was completely taken over.
