Andon is a method, in order to provide a self-describing symbolism, which is suitable for the switching of functions and execution at a machine and/or a process. This method was developed in Japan from management practice.

A possibility of the conversion is a visual checking device in a production department, usually a lit display, which spends the production status of a production system. Coworkers, who discover an error, release a signal and call for in such a way assistance (master, colleague). That can take place naturally also automated.

Examples of and on aids are: an and on line or - button. Thus coworkers can introduce a line stoppage or a plant stop for arising problems. They serve as central announcement of the problem place and should be well visible for all coworkers.
