Andrew Ure (* 18. May 1778 in Glasgow, "† 2 January 1857 in London) was a British physician and professor for natural history and chemistry.

Andrew Ure studied chemistry in Glasgow and in Edinburgh medicine. 1800 it established in Glasgow as a physician and became 1806 professor of natural history and chemistry at the Andersonian institution. Ure busy some years with astronomical investigations, dedicated itself however to mainly physical work and the application of chemical processes in the industry. Starting from 1830 it lived in London, where it died on 2 January 1857.

By its writings are to be emphasized:

  • On the cotton manufacture OF Great Britain (2. Aufl., London 1861)
  • Dictionary OF kind, manufactures and of mines (7. Aufl., London 1875, 3 volumes.), which is appropriate for the Karmarsch Heeren work to reason.
