The angel man spruce (Picea engelmannii) is an evergreen coniferous tree of the spruces (Picea) in that the (Pinaceae).

Spreading

The angel man spruce comes from the west of North America, from British Colombia and Alberta in northern California and after Arizona and new Mexico. In addition two isolated populations are in northern Mexico. The angel man spruce grows in high situations from 900 to 3450 m NN, in the northwest of the circulation area rarely also more deeply. Description

Angel man spruces will reach normally 25 to 40 m highly and in some cases up to 65 M. your master diameter can up to 1,5 m amount to. The crust is thin and flaky and peels in circular panels of 5-10 cm diameters. The crown is closely conical with young angel man spruces and becomes cylindrical with older trees. The recent impulses are leather-brown, usually closely behaart. The needles are 15-30 mm long, in the cross section rhombically. The top side is cyan, with thin Stomata lines, the lower surface blue-white with two broad Stomata lines.

The easily cylindrical taps hang downward, are 4-8 cm long, in closed condition about 1.5 cm and in the offenenen condition about 3 cm thickly. They have thin, bendable sheds with a length of 15-20 mm, whose edges are curved. The taps are reddish to dark red. 4-7 months after fertilization accept it a light brown colouring. The seeds are black, 2-3 mm long, with 5-8 mm long light brown wings.

Use

With the wood of the angel man spruces paper is manufactured and general buildings is established. The wood of the angel man spruces occurring grown slowly in higher situations is used additionally for the building by acoustic guitars. In smaller measure angel man spruces are used also than

The angel man spruce can be arranged into two geographical subspecies, whereby these of some authors also as or independent kinds were described:

• Picea engelmannii subsp. engelmannii (angel man spruce). She is to be found everywhere in the circulation area, except in described the down.
• Picea engelmannii subsp. mexicana (Mexican spruce). It seems in two isolated populations in the high-altitude mountains in northern Mexico, in the Sierra del Carmen in Coahuila (Sierra Madre Oriental) and on the Cerro Mohinora in Chihuahua (Sierra Madre Occidental). The angel man spruces in the mountains of the southwest new Mexico, southeast Arizona and northern Mexico belong possibly also to this subspecies.

Angel man spruces cross extensively with close related white spruces, which are further north and east in the Rocky Mountains resident, and in smaller extent with likewise close related Sitka spruces in the western the cascade chain.
