The term area carrier designates a Zulieferstruktur within procurement logistics, with which supplies are first collected, in order to then transport it in a charge to the place of destination.

Goals

The area carrier structure aims at a concentration of seperate shipments at means of transport. In this way the number of necessary vehicles can be reduced and lowered the transport costs. The scheduling is simplified and administrative procedures is simplified (e.g. by uniform documents). Also the return flow of empty containers and of packing is concentrated.

Requirements

To area carriers special requirements address themselves. In particular in-plant Organistation must be co-ordinated with this structure. Also this structure requires a high measure to date loyalty and fast transport.

Evaluation

For the supplier, the area carrier and the customer advantages arise as a result of this structure.
