Arthur Scherbius (* 30 October 1878 in Frankfurt/Main; "† 13. May 1929) was a German inventor and entrepreneur. It studied electro-technology in Munich and Hanover and created in the year 1918 its own company.

On 23 February 1918 it submitted its patent DRP 416,219 for a coding machine according to the rotor principle, which it called Enigma. 1927 acquired its company the rights at a rotor cipher machine of Hugo cook.

Scherbius died in the year 1929, when he lost and against a wall pushed control of his Pferdekut.
