Axel Martin Fredrik Munthe (* 31 October 1857 in Oskarshamn, Sweden; " 11 February 1949 in Stockholm; alias puck Munthe) was a Swedish physician and author.
Axel Munthe was born 1857 as a son of a pharmacist. It studied medicine in Uppsala, Montpellier and Paris.
At 1880 it began to practice as a physician in Paris and Rome. In the course of the years it still worked in Neapel, London and Stockholm. During its academic years in Paris the work Jean Martin Charcots particularly impressed it. Even in later years its special technical interest of the psychiatry applied. Its vocational career/development exhibits outwardly some breaks. Thus he worked partly than physician for the lowest social classes, while he operated a mode medical practice at the same time or shortly thereafter. In Rome it furnished its practice for example in a house at the Spanish stairs, which had been inhabited among other things before by John Keats. Since 1908 Munthe was a body physician of the Swedish queen Viktoria (geb. princess von Baden).
Internationally became Axel Munthe admits 1929 by its memories "the book of San Michele", which caused large difficulties to the criticism, since therein biographic mixed itself with fantastic one up to the inseparableness. The title of the book refers to its mansion San Michele in Anacapri on the island Capri.
It died on 11 February 1949 in a of the royal lock in Stockholm.
Under the title Axel Munthe - the physician of San Michele was explained to Italian Koproduktion in one German/French/1962 the life of the physician in a feature. Under the direction of George Marischka, which was replaced later from Rudolf Jugert, played after a film script of Hans Jacoby and the music of Mario Nascimbene of the actors O.W. Fischer the main role. At its side Rosanna Schiaffino, Sonja Ziemann, Maria Mahor, acted Heinz Erhardt, Inge-borrow to beautiful, Renate Ewert and Christiane May brook. The producer was Artur of brown ones.
