Airbus is a European airplane manufacturer, that was called during the establishment with full name Airbus Industrie (today airbus S.A.S). A goal of the establishment was it to manufacture a product in Europe, competitive to the US-American manufacturers of large passenger airlines Boeing and McDonnell Douglas which the individual European aviation enterprises could not reach due to the high principal and know-how need.

History

Airbus Industrie became 1970 in the company form of a Groupement conomiques (GIE) (= economic community of interests) called of the initial members Aerospatiale (France) and MBB (Germany) in the life. The Spanish CASA joined the consortium 1971, the British Aerospace 1979. British Aerospace cooperated however from the outset as subcontractor and a wing producer on own risk and without official participation of the British government in airbus.

1998 could set airbus off for the first time more airplanes, than its main competitor Boeing. Both hold ever about 50% of the portion of the world market for to time. On 9 September 2005 airbus could do 4.000. Airplane deliver, a A330-300 for German Lufthansa.

Up to the year 2000 Aerospatiale held and German Aerospace 37.9% each by airbus, British Aerospace 20% and CASA 4.2%.

Those rather loose alliance of the consortium companies changed 2000, as itself - with exception of British Aerospace - all participants to the European Aeronautic, Defence and space company (EADS) with seat in the Netherlands united. Airbus was converted 2001 again into its own society of French right, the airbus S.A.S par act ion with company headquarters into Toulouse Blagnac. This society belonged to 80% the EADS and to 20% that of BAE system and carries therefore the sub-title: at EADS joint venture with BAE of SYSTEM. The Slogan of airbus reads: Setting the standards. In April 2006 communicated BAE system to want to sell its 20%igen portion of airbus at EADS in order to strengthen its armament business in the USA.
