Badge engineering is a term, which finds main in the automobile and electrical industry and in the foodstuffs sector application. The term originating from the English describes the fact that the engineer achievement refers only to the mark emblem ("badge"). With the Badge engineering is offered a same or similar product under different label names. The individual marks can in such a way expand with small cost their product range. Indeed often only minimum changes and optical retouchings are made in the product.
Particularly with British manufacturers the Badge engineering has a long tradition. The large concerns BMC and Rootes understood it to sell the same vehicles provided with minimum changes under different names. Most well-known example here might be Jaguar and Daimler, as well as Rolls-Royces and Bentley. With large international vehicle manufacturers like the American general engine company belongs to Badge engineering to the product concept: Vauxhall and OPELs bring identical vehicles due to the similar customer needs in Europe with right/left-hand steering on the market. The OPEL cadet E, the z. Time von Daewoo is again presented, is also an example of whereby Daewoo does not belong to GM.
The fact that Badge engineering does not have to be limited to individual marks of a company proves for example from each other the independent manufacturers Volkswagen and Ford with their identically constructed models Sharan and Galaxy.
