When the attempt of the World Bank designated the Greens revolution to fight in the countries of the Trikonts since the 1960ern by at that time more modern agrarian technology the poverty. The attempt was strongly promoted both by the governments in the countries and by the international development policy.
The increased returns in the agriculture took place via the conversion to Monokulturen and the purposeful crossing breeding of different sorts. The farmers were replaced thereby by professional breeders. These industrielle breeding led to the development of "hungry" seeds, i.e. seeds, which yield higher by intensified input (Agro chemicals, irrigation, Pestizideinsatz etc.) furnishes. The methods used for the Green revolution are however too expensive and too for the Kleinbauern of the Trikonts. Besides the Kleinbauern would go into the dependence on multinational chemistry and agrarian companies. From ecological view the Green revolution had two negative effects: First of all the promotion of Monokulturen endangers the bio diversity, since few sorts are only cultivated by using and cultivated plants. Besides Monokulturen increase susceptibility for parasits and diseases by the narrow genetic basis. Secondly by the Green the methods the environment used load revolution and destroy ecological operational sequence, which guarantee e.g. future soil fertility and food production.
Many regard the genetic engineering as the second Greens revolution.
