Caol Ila Distillery (speak: kal ihla," Islay Sund "), Destillerie for whisky on the Scottish island Islay.
The Destillerie was created in the year 1846 by Hector Henderson, which developed also Littlemill with, in a bay at the east coast by Islay, something north of haven Askaig directly at the Islay Sund. (Directly at the northern end of the today's road A 846). Bunnahabhain is not five kilometers northern. The water for the production originates from the hole nam Ban (Torrabolls hole).
1854 took over Norman Buchanan, the operator at that time of the Isle OF law Destillerie, the Brennerei. 1863 fell Caol Ila at Bulloch, drawer & CO., which 1879 removals reconditioned the Brennerei and. 1920 went to Caol Ila then at Robertson & Baxter. finally 1927 landed the Destille with the Distillers company Limited (DCL). The operational guidance delegated DCL 1930 then to its daughter Scotish paints Distillers (SMD) it to 1937 quiet-put. After only four years production followed 1941 the next Ruhepause, it went until 1945. By April 1972 until January 1974 the Brennerei was reconditioned grundlegent, was not produced during this time. The number of fuel blisters was extended now of two on six. The Eignerin DCL became starting from 1987 to United Distillers (UD), starting from 1999 then to dia. geo. The daughter SMD is called today United paints and Grain Distillers (UMGD) and still holds the license, until 1992 with Bulloch, drawer & CO. lay. The original fillings of the single Malts are again available since 1988.
Caol Ila had a Maischbottich (mash do) (11.5 tons) made of high-grade steel, eight fermenting tanks (wash-out backs) (ever 60,000 litres) from Pinienholz, three wash-out stills (ever 20,000 litres) and three spirit stills (ever 14,000 litres) under steam beaconing. Beside the own depots also those are used since 1929 closed Lochindaal the Destillerie with haven Charlotte. The annual output is with approx. 3.0 million litre. The largest part of production goes into blending. Beside the Blends of Bulloch drawer is to be called here also a Vatted named Glen Ila. The Malts is traditionally hardly developed in Sherry barrels. As the original fillings the variants of Flora and fauna are nearly more well-known.
