Carl Friedrich Otto Westphal (* 23. March 1833 in Berlin; "† 27 January 1890 in Kreuzlingen with Konstanz) was a German psychiatrist and neurologist.

1858 he became an assistant among other things with William Griesinger. 1861 it habilitierte and became private lecturer in psychiatry at the citizens of Berlin university. 1869 he became a director of the hospital for neurology of the It held this position until 1889. Several important neurologists belonged to Arnold Pick (1851-1924) and Hermann Oppenheim to his pupils, among other things (1858-1919). Carl who-nods (1848-1905) was its assistant. Its son was a neurologist and psychiatrist Alexander Karl Otto Westphal (1863-1941).

Westphal described for the first time the Pseudosklerose (Westphal syndrome, a late form of the disease Wilson), which and the autonomous central area of the Nervus calls Agoraphobie oculomotorius, today Edinger Westphal core.
