Carl Gustav Carus (* 3 January 1789 in Leipzig; "† 28 July 1869 in Dresden) was a physician Anatom, pathologist, psychologist), painter and nature philosopher.

Carus was a personality at times of Goethe and belonged to the generation of the romantics. Among its friends Caspar David Friedrich and king Johann I. (Saxonia) ranked.
