Carl Thiem (* 10 October 1850 in would Nicol-avoid, circle Sagan, Poland) is considered as a founder of the accident surgery in Germany.

Carl Thiem was born as a son of an organists. It is considered as one the founder of the Unfallchirugie in Germany and wrote 1898 the "“manual pointing the way of the accident illnesses due to medical experiences"”. Its name had also over those national borders outside a good reputation as a specialist in the area of the Traumatologie.

After it the today's Carl Thiem clinical center in Cottbus, which combined as "“urban and Thiem mental hospital"” on 1 April 1914 was opened, was designated. Its experiences from his private hospital in the mill road, that today's Wichernhaus, could be passed on there for the population at that time.
