Carlo Juan Finlay de (* 3 December 1833 in in Cuba; "† 20 August 1915 in Cuba), was a Cuban physician and scientist, who discovered the mosquito as a carrier of the yellow fever.

Born as Charles Finley, he changed his names in Carlo Juan Finlay. It studied 1853 at the Jefferson Medical college in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in the USA. it made its exam for 1855 and completed its studies in Havanna and Paris. It established itself in Cuba and opened there a medical practice.

1865 sent a scientific article to the Cuban Academy of Sciences, in which he worked the connection out between climate conditions and the occurrence of the yellow fever to Finlay. Finlay became famous by its proof that the mosquito of the carriers of the yellow fever is. It recommended the fight mosquito as measure against the propagation of the yellow fever. Only 20 years after this discovery in the year 1881 were made its realizations the basis of the fight of the yellow fever.
