Carves is a technology of the wood processing.

The term "“carving"” is named working on wood with measurers, carving iron and other sharp tools. The form of the workpiece results from the kleinteilige removal of wood. Methodically it is similar to the stone-cutter handicraft thereby and faces other methods, in which the form results from joining individual parts or from plastic modelling.

One differentiates between the carving art, which designates the production of works of art by working on wood and which carving relating to crafts, which means a manufacturing of utensils and the ornament by carving work (for example notching cut).
