The case of alliance, (lat. Casus Foederis casus: the case, lat. foederatus: the allied one) designation in the diplomatic language the term, which marks a situation, in which an obligation entered by a state due to a military assistance contract becomes effective to occur a war which the respective ally leads, and/or a war the protection of this partner to begin.
In the North Atlantic contract the case of alliance is called arming attack with the reaction of the common practice of the right of self-defense recognized in article 51 of the statute of the UN in kind 5. The contract developed with the acceptance of an attack of the Soviet Union on west Europe in the back of the head, had however in times of the cold war not to be proclaimed. For the first time the case of alliance on 12 September 2001 decided as Sofortreaktion on the notices from 11 September 2001 on the World trade center and the Pentagon.
