Catalogs serve a situation as aids to the critical argument with the actual condition. Weak points and lack are to be recognized and at the same time solution types to be ordered by these. Both test question catalogs and lack and weak point catalogs support the analysis process of the actual condition efficiently.

Particularly in the management consultation catalogs are used as intervention tools. They can be used in the analysis phase of a technical consultation for the view of the sequence organisation or the structure organization.

It may not be ignored however that catalogs are not universal means and their application is to be regarded for each individual case differentiated. The wrong and excessive use of catalogs in enterprises can increase the bureaucracy.

The test question catalog, the weak point catalog and the lack list are kinds of catalog, which are treated in the following.

1. Test question catalog/check list

  • Definition

For the test question catalog in the literature above all the check list is synonymously used. Is nevertheless a possible differentiation of the two terms: "„The check list can be regarded as a special kind of a check list. It aims usually however less at a determination of qualitative deficits (like the check list) than rather at a kind completeness control off. "“(Grochla, 1986) further ones synonyms for the test question catalog are: Check list procedure, questionnaire method, test question list and test question technology.

  • Production

The test question catalog is a composition of questions, with which one tries to treat all problem fields of the actual condition and find systematically weak points. Decision relevant characteristics are formulated as question and combined into a catalog. During the composition both the logical view of the investigation range and the experiences from practice play a relevant role.

Two aims must be considered with the production:

  1. Weak points/lack are to be recognized as fast as possible.
  2. Common solution types, which concern the investigation range, are to be examined.
  • Pro and cons

The test question catalog is situation-referred and must be touched down new for each problem area. The formulation of the questions must be understandable and clear, in order to avoid misinterpretations. Besides the questions may not be placed superficially, so that no significant problem will survey.

The disadvantage of a detailed test question catalog is in the large expenditure, which develops with the analysis of problems. In addition there is no general systematics with the production of the catalog. The quality its depends usually on the experience of the creator. Further putting of the test question catalog on is complex and the complexity of connections only with difficulty representable. Since the number of questions is limited, the lack of the actual condition are not recognized possibly. A further disadvantage results from the fact that the test question catalog points out only those to already well-known weak points and solutions.

The test question catalog represents however an effective instrument, since it prevents that individual aspects will survey. By the production of the catalog further a creative thought process becomes lively. The test question catalog is particularly effective with tasks of routine in each range, since this by the employment of the catalog controllable become more delegatable and.

  • Example

An excerpt from a test question catalog about work discontent (Grochla, 1986):

Are you content with the working climate in your department and in the entire

The fluctuation, is the time absent small in the office range and/or is appropriate them in /unter for the line

Is the readiness to perform of the coworkers

With frustration features of the coworkers consistently after the causes one

...

2. Weak point catalog

"„Under weak points of the organization material-typical, complex lack of the organization are understood, heard to those also the neglect of proven organizational principles. "“(Blohm, 1974) the experiences with weak points from practice serve for the production of the weak point catalog. On the basis its weak point in a concrete situation can be determined better. For each special range its own catalog must be provided.

3. Lack list

The lack list develops during the analysis of weak points. The frequentnesses of the occurrence of a lack, e.g. incorrect order dates, is collected.
