The Central German broadcast (MDR) is an institute of the public right (national broadcasting corporation) for the countries Saxonia, Saxonia-Anhalt and Thuringia (Central Germany) with seat in Leipzig. The MDR is member of the pool of broadcasting corporations.

The MDR as public institute

The MDR employs altogether approx. 2,100 firm and about three times so many free coworkers. The seat of the institute is in Leipzig. There also the television center with the TV studios is accommodated. The central radio broadcasting programs as jump, mdr info., Sputnik and figaro send from the radio center in resound (Saale). In the state capitals Dresden, Erfurt and Magdeburg are national radio houses, those apart from independent radio broadcasting programs (MDR 1 radio"…) daily (Mo-SA) from 19.00 o'clock to 19.29:45 clock radiate regional magazines on the television (Saxonia mirror, Saxonia-Anhalt today, Thuringia journal).

  • MDR 1 radio Saxonia: National program for Saxonia
  • MDR 1 radio Saxonia-Anhalt: National program for Saxonia-Anhalt
  • MDR 1 radio Thuringia: National program for Thuringia
  • JUMP: Pop and youth wave for Saxonia, Saxonia-Anhalt and Thuringia
  • MDR Figaro: Culture program with cultural word program, regional classical period transmissions and musical emphasis on classical period and jazz, in addition, Pop and skirt (in former times MDR culture)

Ochestra and ballet of the MDR

The MDR has three own ochestras:

MDR Sinfonieorchester the orchestra was created 1915 as an orchestra of the concert association and transferred 1924 into the broadcast symphony orchestra Leipzig; Principal conductors were among other things Herbert cone, wolf Dieter striking sign and from 1996 to 1999 Marcello Viotti as Triumvirat with Fabio Luisi and Manfred hone-hit a corner. 1999 to 2007 are Fabio Luisi exclusive principal conductor, its designate successor are created June broadcast choir 1946 as broadcast choir Leipzig, are it today the largest professional concert choir of Germany. The MDR has also the leadership with the MDR television ballet, the only television ballet of Europe. It came out 1992 from that 1962 formed DFF Fernsehballett and has 30 members.

Transmitting plants and other

The MDR does not possess own transmitting plants. For the spreading of the programs plants of the German Telekom AG are used. Since the 5.Dezember 2005 is DVB-T in the areas Leipzig/resounds and Erfurt/Weimar available, over which supply in the remaining areas is at the beginning of 2006 is decided. In the service and program area outside firms are active.

History

The Central German broadcast has its origins in the 1924 created Central German broadcast A.G. (MIRAG). The MIRAG belonged after the introduction of the maintenance broadcast to Germany in the year 1923 to the first large, supraregional broadcasting corporations. After synchronising the broadcast in the German Reich and the full nationalization of the MIRAG this 1934 changed into "„the realm transmitter Leipzig "“.

After the end of the Second World War licensed Soviet crew power 1945 "„radio Leipzig "“, which existed only few months up to the renewed establishment of the Central German broadcast. 1946 start the new program "„Central German broadcast, transmitter Leipzig "“in the new radio house Springer route. The Central German broadcast soon thereafter the national transmitters Dresden, resounds and Weimar as well as Studios the Chemnitz and Magdeburg attached. 1952 were centralized the GDR and the five countries was dissolved. In the course its was standardized also the GDR broadcast and centered in Berlin. In the new radio house Nalepastrasse in Berlin upper beautiful pasture were produced since then all main broadcast programs of the GDR. In September 1952 the program was converted "„transmitter Leipzig "“simply to the maintenance program "„Berlin III "“. But in August 1953 the broadcast structure was already organized again. The programs Deutschlandsender, citizens of Berlin broadcast and radio GDR developed. 1956 were introduced however the regional program by radio GDR, "„transmitter Leipzig "“. In Leipzig one produced for radio GDR a program window, whose transmitting time was supplemented gradually up to 11 hours (last 1989) and the radio GDR fair wave in each case to the spring and autumn fair in Leipzig from 7 to 19 the o'clock would send, later to 20 o'clock. In the other former, large radio houses of the Central German broadcast in Dresden, resounds and Weimar regional programs were likewise produced.

In July 1990 again one took place decentralization from the national transmitters developed for three new regional broadcasting stations (in Saxonia "„Saxonia radio "“, in Saxonia-Anhalt "„radio Saxonia notion "“and in Thuringia broadcast "“, which would send 1991 to end. With the novella of the broadcast state contract for the five new Lands of the Federal Republic after the reunification became to 31. May 1991 the Central German broadcast (MDR) as three-land institute for the Lands of the Federal Republic Saxonia, Saxonia-Anhalt and Thuringia based.

On 1 January 1992 the Central German broadcast took up its transmit mode.

In the television it started MDR television with "„the third television program "“. The program is to be received since 27 August 1993 also over satellite in almost completely Europe. In the blanking gap of the MDR program becomes already since 14. March 1992 the regional videotex offer of the MDR, that first still together with the ORB (ORB/MDR text) organized was sent and since 1 January 1997 alone by the MDR (MDR text). Since 1992 the MDR takes part also in the pool of broadcasting corporations community program.

In sound broadcasting the three national programs MDR started 1 radio Saxonia (with daily regional programs from Studios Dresden, Chemnitz, Bautzen and Leipzig), MDR 1 radio Saxonia-Anhalt (with daily regional programs from Studios the Magdeburg, Stendal, Dessau and resounded) and MDR 1 radio Thuringia (with daily regional programs from Studios the therapeutic bath holy city, Gera and Suhl) on 1 January 1992, which Popmusik, service and maintenance program MDR life, which information program MDR info., which predominantly classical music spreading program MDR culture and the youth program DT 64, which was then radiated first over UKW, taken over by the GDR broadcast, starting from 1 July over medium wave. Since that time the MDR spreads altogether 8 radio broadcasting programs. On 1 January 2004 MDR culture in MDR Figaro was renamed.
