With the adjective decentralized (Gegenbegriff: centralistic) a spatial organization form is designated, with which important functions (political decisions) from a center not to be fulfilled, but are spatial or functionally paged out.

In the political context designates a related concept; also in the context of political concepts such as basis democracy, soviet republic and Kommunitarismus plays an important role. An example of a decentralized organization form is decentralized in the system of the Federal Republic of Germany, with within important politics policies decisions, i.e. here: in the countries, pleases become. A classical example of a centralistic aligned political system is France, where a great many decisions in the capital Paris pleases becomes and the individual only few powers of decision to have.

The conceptualness is not limited however to the use the political area. Also companies, associations or software architectures can be decentralized or centralistic organized.

Decentralization/centralization the process of change of an organization form is named to a decentralized and/or zentralistischeren form.
