The designation of chairmen is used in the public most frequently for a party chief or the director/conductor of a large committee - for example a commission or a supervisory board -.
But applies the name for almost all ladder of associations and organizations, of congresses, meetings and other groupings. Also with changing presidency of an autonomy or different body the respective leader chairman (English Chairman) is called.
In addition, the official title can be president (lat. presiding), general manager, "first director" or another designation.
For the chairman of a party or a combination usually stand in or several deputies (vice-president, acting one etc.), a secretary (for external contacts and minutes) and a financial specialist to the side. The law on societies regulates closer details.
This closer management commitee, to which within the range of politics and economics often ein/e belongs, is usually called executive committee or presidency, the president also "chairman of the board" or general manager (see above).
At corporations (AG) the chairmen in most states in distances of several years from the general assembly are selected. With trade unions and other large associations it takes place similarly, as required also repeatedly in annual meetings. There also a "report of the chairman" is usual, whom often a discussion follows for management, to the general policy and/or the structures, for Finanzgebarung or to programs of the next time.
Afterwards also on (financial and business) the discharge of the executive committee one co-ordinates, which is accepted as a rule with large majority. With one - relatively rare - Verweigerung of this discharge must withdraw (depending upon statute or agenda) usually the entire executive committee, however frequently under another chairman or financial responsible person is then again-ordered.
Whether a chairman for its activity receives a payment, depends on the size and other characteristics of the organization. With small non-profit bodies or associations work is usually honorary.
