By chamber of engineers one understands an according to professional status combination of engineers of a country or a Land of the Federal Republic, as a rule in the legal form of a body of the public right.

Chambers of engineers are the autonomy mostly freelance active engineers (advisory engineers, build-collecting main-entitled engineers) and have the among other things following tasks:

  • Regulation of the occupation order and professional ethics
  • Promotion of the co-operation of different engineer disciplines
  • Co-operation at laws and regulations, which concern the vocational field of engineers
  • Consultation of politics, municipalities and other institutions with current technical decisions and aspects of future
  • Questions of the training and further training in the free occupation; Information and specialized conferences
  • Contact to technical universities and co-operation with the production of study plans
  • Questions of the permission and of quality controls
  • Conciliation of possible Steitigkeiten
  • Co-operation during the production and monitoring of the regulation of charges
  • Consultation and support of the members with technical and legal questions, when insurance, environmental protection etc.
  • Consultation with vocational

The details vary from chamber to chamber. While it concerns with some chambers general chamber of engineers, other chambers are limited to engineers of the building industry. Also common chambers for engineers and architects occur.

Most chambers of engineers know two groups of members:

  • Obligation members: For the guidance of the job title advisory engineer the membership in the chamber is obligating. In the Saarland the chamber membership became obligating in the course of the larger transmissiontransmission transmission on engineers for all build-collecting main-entitled engineers.
  • Freiwillige of members: Engineers to the obligation membership are not obligated, can under fixed conditions freiwillige members become.
