Charles A. Graner (* 1968 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania) was up to its dishonorable dismissal an US-American soldier.
Graner was used Iraq as reservist in the context of the occupation after the third Gulf War, in the Abu Ghuraib prison operated of US troops. 2004 emerged from there photos, the member of US armed forces with tortures and treatments of prisoners showed. Before active the Graner which was in the civilian life as prison guards is regarded as a leader of these acts, stated however, only instructions of higher places to have obeyed. Proofs could not do it this so far however.
On 14 January 2005 he was condemned because of torture of Iraqi prisoners of war to ten years imprisonment. Also immediately after the process Graner showed no regret and tried to justify its act. He knows today that his behavior was wrong, but it of the correctness of its acting was convinced at that time. As a soldier it has to obey and unconditionally to implement the instructions of superiors.
