Charles R. Drew (* 1904; "† 1 April 1950) was a colored US-American Transfusionsmediziner.

Charles R. Drew developed today the procedure recognized world-wide for its graduation during a research stay to the New Yorker Columbia University (1930) to separate and separately freeze units of stored blood into blood plasma and cell concentrate, in order to make it more durable. During the Second World War he was a director of the Blood for Britain Spendenprojekts, afterwards director of the blood banks of the red cross. It publicly admits, because it abolished previous, unscientific practice, after which white US soldiers only blood from white donors to receive should. After the war he taught to the Howard University in Washington.

Drew died with a car accident. A urbane legend means that a neighbouring hospital did not want to accept it due to its skin color. Eye-witnesses disclaimed however.
