Check minority one names the possibility of a minority of preventing with tunings a certain resolution. Check minorities develop, where qualified majorities are required.

So for example a 75%-ige is controlling interest, among other things for the liquidation of an enterprise ("§ 262 AktG) and for an amendment of the by-laws in the German law governing share transactions necessarily for intended general meeting resolutions ("§ 179 AktG). In this case one speaks of a check minority, if a group possesses more as 25% and the less than 50% of the shares.

A further example are the check minorities of the planned European Union condition for tunings in the European Union Council of Ministers. There resolutions can be prevented by more as 45% of the states and/or by at least four states, which represent more than 35% of the population.
