Child and youth advisers (KJB) are a form of the participation of children and young people in local-political decisions and processes. The education of child and youth advisers is regulated over Landesgesetze in the Federal Republic. This form of the participation of children and young people existed not yet much is enough. The mechanism of child and youth advisers is left to the municipalities themselves in the own sphere of activity. In Schleswig-Holstein "ยง the procedure regulates 4 of the Gemeindeordnung.

The KJB is political committees and consists of selected representatives of the children and young people of the municipality. As rights talking & request right are awarded among other things, i.e. a possibility is given to represent the position of the children and young people to a decision the administration and/or the political responsible person.

As non-partisan committees they are independent and to nobody bound, whereby a co-operation with the city administration is quite conceivable. Among the tasks of the child and youth advisers rank among other things the statement of the tendency of the children and young people in the municipality, as well as the evaluation and from it possibly resulting optimization. The moreover meetings for children and young people can be accomplished, changed playgrounds and/or be accomplished participation projects with children and young people. This must happen however in arrangement with the administration.
