Christian God-dear Ludwig (* 30 April 1709 in Brieg, "† 7. May 1773 in , also quotes as: Christian God-dear load-eternally) was a German physician and Botaniker.

Life

C.G. Ludwig buildup in Brieg (Schlesien) as a son of a Schumachers, where he visited the High School. It studied medicine and natural sciences in Brieg and Leipzig. From shortage of money it had to break its study off, accepted however a place as Botaniker on an expedition led of L. elevation controversy to Africa. After its return 1733 it terminated its study in Leipzig and held starting from 1736 lectures at the University of Leipzig as Magister. it attained a doctorate to 1737 there with Christoph Friedrich Haase and became 1740 extraordinary professor of the medicine. 1747 he was appointed the tidy professor (full professor) of the medicine in Leipzig. It was occasional Dekan of the medical faculty.

Among Ludwig's pupils ranked under other Johann Carl Gehler (1732-1796). With Goethe it held lively conversations in its time as a student across botanische classification. Ludwig corresponded often with Linnaeus and other Botanikern of his time. Ludwig was in the Leipziger society besides as poets and speakers well-known.

C.G. Ludwig was the father of Christian L. Ludwig (1749-1784), a Leipziger physician and translator of the attempts of Joseph Priestley.

Achievements

Linnaeus designated a tropical aquatic plant to its measurement favour after it, the Ludwigia. The botanische abbreviation Ludw. refers to Erstbeschreibungen by C.G. Ludwig.
