Cicely Mary Strode Saunders (* 22. June 1918 in Barnet, Hertfordshire; "† 14 July 2005 in London) was an English lady doctor, social female worker and a nurse. Beside Elizabeth Ross is considered it as of the modern Hospizbewegung and Palliativmedizin.

It visited the Roedean School, St Anne's college, Oxford, St Thomas's hospital and the Nightingale School OF only-sings, where it was trained as the nurse (nurse). It became later lady doctor.

1948 inherited it 500 around a Hospiz to open. It took however still 20 years, until 1967 the pc. Christopher's Hospice in Sydenham in the southeast of London could be opened.

Their conviction that it is possible to arrange the last days of humans pleasant carried it into the world. The development by Palliativmedizin and Hospizen are to be thanked completely substantially to her.

Them became as an only woman in 20. Century honour doctor of the medicine in England (1989, by the archbishop of Canterbury), various other honours like the title "“lady"” (1980; similarly in dt. the empire the free woman), brit. Order OF Merit (1989) and the Conrad N. Hilton Humanitarian Prize (2001; endowed with 700.000 English Pound).

It was twice married.

As Christin it rejected life (euthanasia) strictly. Dies was for it the chance to say to friends and family again thanks.

In Great Britain there are now 220 Hospize, and world-wide over 8.000.

It died in the Hospiz opened by it.
