The city hall of Bautzen (sorb. Radnica) is between chief market (in the south) and meat market (in the north) in the midst of the Bautzener old part of town. The building of the first firm advice seat here goes back on a decree of the king Ottokar Ith Premysl, which permitted the city to establish here "a particularly stately stone house ".
The establishment of the first city hall took place in the year 1213. From this original building however due to the many destruction and changes nearly nothing more remained preserved. After its opening in 13. Century served the in the lower floor of the city hall probably first as department store for Tuchmacher, which were at this time the richest buyers of the city. 1284 moved the dealers into the again established garb house on the opposite side of the chief market, since them the place in the was not sufficient any longer. Since the establishment of the Oberlausitzer of six-standard ware in the year 1346 the Bautzener city hall was its Sitz.Im years 1489 put one the foundation-stone for the tower of the city hall. The building was completed on 21 August 1493. 1525 were inserted the first Turmuhr with the associated hour bell at the south side of the tower. 1582 one cleared away the point of the city hall tower, in order to increase this by a floor. The moreover one stony handling developed underneath the tower hood in this change phase.
In the year 1627 a Turmuhr followed also on the northern tower side. The tower and the clock were destroyed with the large city fire of 1634. Until 1644 became the tower again established, with a storm 1660 however the top were down-torn and destroyed. Until 1663 were reconstructed again the tower. After the city hall fire of 1704, with which the building with the tower were again damaged, one established the tower hood, which is received this very day in the reconstruction. Between 1729 and 1732 the city hall was converted after the plans by Johann Christoph of Naumann and received its current shape. The changes concentrated on the development of the upper floor, the enlargement of the windows and the cultivation of the stairway with the baroque double stairs on Nordseite.Die south side received only to 1863 their Pilasterarchitektur.
At the south facade of the city hall the statue "of the Dutschmann stood for knights "in the time of 1864 to 1985 on a base, which crowns today again the well on the chief market before the city hall.
