Civil engineering a field of the building industry is called, which is concerned with planning, construction and establishment of buildings.

One calls civil engineerings those (usually large) buildings, for whose establishment special technical-constructional computations and unusual statics are necessary, or technical materials to the employment come.

Modern engineer art

Some examples of such civil engineerings are Munich olympia stadiums, widespread congress or machinery buildings, special bridges, above ground structures or church towers, high or particularly earthquake-proof TV towers, propulsion and tunnel projects with difficult geology, unusual Kavernen and dams or strongly loaded

Also apparently a "“usual"” larger building knows a particularly needed kind of founding - for instance with water entrance or in sediment basins also tonus in accordance with or loose rock - which provoke art of engineer.

Famous historical examples

Likewise many historical buildings are as expressed civil engineerings to classify - one does not have to think straight of the Eiffelturm:

  • the Hagia Sofia as world-wide the first large dome
  • or some the seven world miracles,
  • the Kolosseum and similar large's buildings with sophisticated safety engineering
  • the reorganization of the tears in the Peter cathedral (see Boscovich and its to appraisals)
  • the measurement of the pyramids of Gizeh or the water tunnel of Hiskia in Jerusalem
  • the unusual telescopes of the observatories of Paris or Vienna or installing of the large mirror at the Mount Palomar
  • the first mountain course at the Semmering, the first God hard tunnel or the viaducts in the Odenwald
  • the Roman aquaducts or the mountain spring water supply to the Hochschwab
  • the antique puncture the Sueskanals
  • the such unnecessary, ships of the Wikinger end
  • the bridges over the trichloroethylene Anna ravine or the Firth OF Forth
  • and much more besides.
