Claude C. Hopkins (*1866, "† 1932) was an American ad writer and advertising entrepreneur.

1907-1925 worked Hopkins as Texter for Albert Lasker and/or the advertising agency lord & Thomas (late Foote, Cone Belding). It conceived the first campaigns for automobiles, motor-car tire, detergent (Palmolive), tooth paste (Pepsodent) and developed numerous methods of the empirical Werbeerfolgskontrolle like the work with test markets, announcements with order coupon for free samples, systematic testing of Headlines and texts over the return of Response announcements. It gathered the most important principles around 1930 in the book Scientific Advertising, which made it famous. In addition it wrote an autobiography: "“My Life in Advertising"”. Both works were reprinted still decades later again and again and affected among other things David Ogilvy.

Hopkins' basic principle was: In such a way conceive your means of publicity (special your announcement), as a good salesman speaks with an purchase-interested.
