Clynelish is a Whiskybrennerei with Brora, Sutherland, Scotland, Great Britain.
The original Clynelish Destillerie (Clynelish A), was created 1819 by George Granville Levison Gower, the second Marquis OF Stafford and later Duke OF Sutherland. The construction costses are to have amounted to at that time about 750 Pound of Sterling. The Brennerei was leased 1821 at James Harper, 1834 at Andrew Ross and 1846 at George Lawson, to which the two original fuel blisters replace around 1850 read. 1896 went it at James Ainslie & CO., to 1912 at John Risk and the Distillers company Limited (DCL) and 1925 completely to the DCL it 1930 at their daughter Scotish paint Distillers (SMD) handed over. By March 1931 until September 1938 and May 1941 until November 1945 the Brennerei was shut down. The fuel blisters were heated up until 1961 with coal, afterwards on steam umgestellt.1965 the own was closed.
1967 were built a new Destillerie (Clynelish B) by SMD directly beside Clynelish A. The old Brennerei was mothballed in May 1968, went however already in April 1969 again into production. Around confusion to avoid Clynelish A was renamed on 2 December 1969 in Brora and still produced until May 1983 a substantially more strongly getorften whisky. Clynelish B belongs since 1987 to United Distillers (UD) and thus since 1998 to dia. geo, but only 1990 became the license of Ainslie & Heilbron Ltd. on United paint and Grain Distillers (UMGD), which new name transfers from SMD.
The water of the Brennerei belonging to the region Highlands/Northern Highlands originates from the Clynemilton Burn. The used Malz is referred from the Glen Ord Maltings. Clynelish had a Maischbottich (mash do) (12.5t) from stainless steel and eight fermenting tanks (wash-out backs) (for each 58.600l) from larch wood. One distills in three wash-out stills (for each 17.000l) and three spirit stills (for each 19.000l) by steam to be heated up. Brora possessed a wash-out quietly (13.500l) and one spirit quietly (13.500l). Also it referred its water from the Clynemilton Burn and starting from 1965 their Malz of the Glen Ord Maltings.
