The coastal fir (Abies grandis) (Syn.: A. excelsior), also giant fir mentioned, is a kind of coniferous tree of the firs (Abies) from that the (Pinaceae).

Spreading

The coastal fir is domestic in the western North America. Their circulation area is enough along the Pacific coast of Vancouver Iceland and from British Colombia over Washington and Oregon to northwest California. Separated from it it occurs also inland east to Idaho and west Montana.

The coastal fir rises in altitudes of 1600 meters of NN. It prefers deep, nutrient-rich, damp however well drained soils. Often it grows along rivers. It forms pure existence or mixed woodlands with the douglas fir, the westAmerican larch, the Sitka spruce and the westAmerican Hemlocktanne.

In Central Europe the coastal fir is one of the forstlich most important wood, particularly in the Atlantic climatic area. It can reach a height of 40 meters and a diameter of 50 centimeters within 50 years. On the other hand it is more tolerant in relation to the location than the white fir. Description
