A colored pencil, also coloured pencil mentioned, is a writing or a drawing equipment with an water-insoluble colored mine. As shroud of the mine frequently painted wood is used as with pencils.

History

Over the history of the colored pencil relatively few are well-known: First documented mentions date at the beginning 19. Century. However probably already in former times colored pencils were manufactured.

Production

The production of the colored pencil corresponds to that of the pencil in the rough one, apart from the color mine. It consists of Farbpigmenten, fats, waxes, bonding agents, in addition minerals such as talcum powder and kaolin. These are mixed and air-dried afterwards - differently than with the pencil -, since the coloring materials would not get over a burning in a furnace.

Application

Contrary to the pencil the mines of colored pencils draw not grey, but colored. By closely set lines (shading) also colored surfaces can be put on. The chroma transferred to the paper can be varied by a change of the pressure strength. Thickness soft colored pencils in sharp colors find as text markers use.

With colored pencils glaze techniques are possible. The pigments of water color pins so mentioned can be painted additional with water. The Hauptnachteil opposite pencils is that the lines of colored pencils cannot be rubbed out only very with difficulty, often also at all.
