The commander of barracks designates mostly the utility position of the serve-oldest officer of barracks. It is not barracks-spreading to confound with the commander of location, who has similar tasks, these however regulates.

In the context of its tasks it will represent regularly by the deputy commander of barracks or a barracks officer.

The commander of barracks is not necessarily the highest superior of barracks, in the context of his tasks has he however extensive command and instruction powers opposite the subunit commanders of the barracks for which he responsibly actual "§3 superior regulation (VorgV).

To its tasks belong regularly:

• Barracks-referred project planning (e.g. Road construction), which are not to be assigned to an individual unit.
• Awake superior of the military or civilian guard of barracks.
• Co-operation with local authorities (e.g. Police)
