Computer Assisted of telephones interview (CATI) marks the support of the telephone interview with the help of the computer. This happens in the following technical subranges:
The questionnaire, which is mostly present as text (file), is converted into a computer program. The interviewers accomplish then the interviews at the screen, and the questionnaire program (CATI program) presents question for question at the screen. The interviewer enters the answer. The entire control logic of the questionnaire is correctly gone through by the computer program.

This component helps to translate a questionnaire program in such a way that the natural-language parts of the questionnaire are brought into the new target language, without the syntax of the questionnaire program is impaired thereby. A program skeleton (the syntax) to a certain extent a new skin (the interview language) is put on.
Not all CATI systems exhibit all these components and some also still have additional modules. CATI is however in each case more than only a programmed questionnaire.
The determination of samples is made with the CATI by the so-called RLD procedure.
